12.I recently visited the Emergency Room with a minor condition. While I was waiting, I noticed that someone who came in after me was seen by the physician before me. Are GRMC emergency room patients treated on a first-come-first-served basis?

Normally, patients are seen on a first-come- first-served basis; however, if someone comes in with a more serious condition, such as chest pains or severe trauma, these patients will be seen before those with minor medical emergencies. GRMC does have a minor medical emergency room, as well as a regular emergency treatment area so that appropriate care can be directed for faster service.

13.Why does the medical center not provide me extensive information about patients receiving healthcare services, even if they are a relative or friend of mine?

All healthcare providers, including GRMC, are subject to State and Federal guidelines regarding the protection of patient privacy. We value the right of the patient to have his or her healthcare information to remain confidential. Patients may have the right to release specific information to specific individuals in certain instances. These arrangements must be made through the patient or the patientās legal advocate.

There are some instances were GRMC patients request that they become a "No Information" patient. This may be for personal safety or confidentiality reasons. In such an event, no information, including confirmation of the patientās admission, will be given to third parties.
