Meet Dr. Aliya Mushtaq, Interventional Cardiologist
Guadalupe Regional Medical Center’s commitment to advanced medicine continues with the addition of a new clinical service: Interventional Cardiology.
Interventional cardiologists are highly-trained specialists who deal with catheter-based interventions that diagnose and repair structural heart problems. Heading up GRMC’s interventinal cardiology program is headed up by Aliya Mushtaq, MD, a University of Nairobi/University of Texas-trained cardiologist who recently selected Seguin as the location for her new full-time interventional cardiology practice.
Dr. Mushtaq’s areas of expertise include:
- Coronary and peripheral interventions
- Invasive vascular studies
- Diagnostic coronary angiography
- Structural heart disease
Additionally, Dr. Mushtaq has a special interest in women’s cardiovascular health. She is triple-board certified in the areas of internal medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology.
A native of Embu, Kenya, an important trading center near Nairobi that is similar in size to Seguin, Dr. Mushtaq’s interest in medicine was sparked by her father, a family medicine physician. Were she to return to Kenya today, she would be the only female interventional cardiologist in a nation of more than 42 million.
GRMC is proud to welcome Dr. Mushtaq to the GRMC team and excited about the opportunity to expand and enhance the cardiovascular services we offer the community.
