Summer Health Tips: Physicals and Vaccinations
By Linda Sullivan, MD

Summer is a great time to catch up on preventive health visits for your family. A routine well-child visit is a vital part of keeping kids healthy, and sometimes may be combined with a pre-participation sports physical. Your doctor will also review your child’s vaccination history to make sure they are ready for the school year ahead.
Most adults also benefit from an annual wellness visit, which is an important time to discuss cancer screening and prevention of diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Adults need vaccinations, too. So take advantage of the wellness visit to make sure you are protected against diseases such as pneumonia, shingles and hepatitis B.
