Healthgrades

Guadalupe Regional Medical Center has achieved remarkable recognition in the past year, having been awarded back-to-back “A” ratings in Patient Safety from The Leapfrog Group, and now being recognized yet again by Healthgrades, the leading online resource helping patients and their families make informed decisions to find the right hospital for the right care.

“This most recent national recognition from Healthgrades confirms our dedication in providing the best possible care to each life we are privileged to touch, as well as exemplifies the commitment of our staff when caring for patients”, said Robert Haynes, CEO of Guadalupe Regional Medical Center.

Every year, Healthgrades evaluates nearly 4,500 hospitals’ performances nationwide for common inpatient procedures and conditions. GRMC has been recognized by Healthgrades in 2017 as 5-Star performer in Hip Fracture Treatment, Total Knee Replacement, and Appendectomies, meaning our clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating a condition or performing a procedure. The new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally. For example, from 2013-2015, if all  hospitals as a group performed similarly to hospitals receiving 5-Star ratings as a group, on average 223,412 lives could potentially have been saved and 162,215 complications could potentially have been avoided**. The complete Healthgrades 2017 Report to the Nation can be found at www.healthgrades.com/quality.

GRMC has once again been recognized for the outstanding Orthopedic care provided at our facility.   The three board certified orthopedic surgeons who practice at GRMC bring a combined total of more than 75 years of surgical experience and expertise, and have performed thousands of bone, joint and muscle related surgeries here at GRMC.

For the 10th year in a row, Healthgrades found that hip fracture treatment at GRMC is statistically significantly better than expected, recognizing it with a 5-Star rating. GRMC also received 5-Star recognition related to knee replacement surgeries for the 4th consecutive year.

A third type of surgery merited distinction as well – appendectomies performed at GRMC were also rated as 5-Star quality for the second year in a row. Lastly, GRMC was found to be top performing 5-Star in Vaginal and C-Section Deliveries for the third year in a row.

Patient Safety

GRMC is the proud recipient of the Healthgrades 2017 Patient Safety Excellence Award™, a designation that recognizes superior performance in hospitals that have prevented the occurrence of serious, potentially avoidable complications for patients during hospital stays.  The distinction as placed GRMC in the top 5% of all short-term acute care hospitals in the nation for Patient Safety.

Being nationally recognized with a Patient Safety Excellence Award™ means that GRMC has demonstrated excellent performance in safety provided for patients. During the 2013-2015 study period, Healthgrades found that patients treated in hospitals receiving the award, when compared to patients treated at non-recipient hospitals were, on average:

  • 40 % less likely to experience an accidental puncture or laceration during a procedure
  • 44 % less likely to experience a collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest,
  • 54 % less likely to experience catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired at the hospital
  • 50 % less likely to experience pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital

A coordinated, dedicated team of health care providers is the key to excellent patient care. For surgical patients, that team includes the surgeon, the anesthesia provider, and a wide range of nurses, therapists and many other professionals who care for the patient before, during and after surgery. It is our continued honor to care for the patients of our extended community, and to receive confirmation that our care is not only compassionate, but also of verifiably excellent quality.
