Guadalupe Regional Medical Center COVID-19 Update: July 14, 2020

As of July 14, 2020, Guadalupe County is reporting 1,164 COVID-19 cases (including 667 reported to the County and 497 DSHS Pending Cases) with 408 recovered and 259 active cases.

Numbers of COVID-19 Patients at GRMC: Currently GRMC has 38 hospitalized COVID-19 patients and yesterday we had 45. This number changes frequently. Over the last week our daily census has averaged between 38-45 COVID-19 inpatients.

STRAC Allocation of Resources: STRAC has continued to fulfill GRMC’s request for nursing assistance by allocating a total of 17 travel nurses and 5 respiratory therapists to GRMC.

Impact of STRAC Staff Allocation on Elective Procedures: Last week GRMC reported that its surgical committee met to discuss elective procedures during the current COVID-19 increase in our area and decided we would only be performing urgent/emergent surgical procedures to conserve resources (both staffing and materials) that may be needed to treat COVID-19 patients.

The addition of 22 clinical staff affords GRMC the ability to care for our COVID-19 patients and proceed with selective elective procedures. Before GRMC received the STRAC staffing allocation our ability to care for COVID-19 patients and surgical patients was stressed; which is why GRMC voluntarily suspended elective procedures. Following the allocation, we are confident in our ability to take care of COVID-19 patients and our surgical patients. GRMC will continue to monitor our resources and make changes as necessary to adjust to the shifting needs of our patient population.
