[Seguin, Texas] April 8, 2020 — The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Guadalupe County has risen to 45. Guadalupe Regional Medical Center continues to remain in a heightened state of preparation for a potential surge of COVID-19 cases.

Preparation of Off-Site Location for Potential Surge Capacity: GRMC, in partnership with local emergency management officials, has been actively exploring off-campus facility options for housing non-COVID-19 patients who require hospitalization in the event of a surge of COVID-19 patients. Guadalupe Regional Medical Center’s Outpatient Surgery Center, located at 214 Medical Drive in Seguin, has been identified by GRMC as the best available choice for this purpose. In conjunction with the County, we are reviewing next steps needed to prepare the facility.

GRMC Daily COVID-19 Preparedness: Our emergency preparedness team continues to provide daily updates to STRAC (Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council, our emergency council who assist in providing and monitoring resources for our region) regarding availability of facility beds, ventilators, personal protective equipment and supplies and additional reporting as requested by state and/or federal authorities.

GRMC conducts a daily call with our emergency management team to review:

  • National and local numbers of COVID-19 cases;
  • Known and anticipated staffing and supply issues; and
  • Updates from Centers for Disease Control, the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, Texas Hospital Association, Orders from Texas Governor Abbott’s Office, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid guidance, and federal legislation on COVID-19; and
  • Modifies processes as necessary.

GRMC will continue to evaluate and respond to provide the best and safest care possible in these
challenging times.
