Patient Safety

Guadalupe Regional Medical Center has achieved remarkable recognition for 2017, having been awarded our third “A” rating in a row for Patient Safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit health care ratings organization who bases their ratings on performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harm.
“It is an honor to be recognized for a third consecutive A in patient safety by The Leapfrog Group,” said Robert Haynes, CEO of GRMC. To be honored in the Fall of 2016, as well as the Spring and Fall of 2017 as an outstanding facility for safety and quality is a great achievement. I am extremely proud to see the hard work the staff at GRMC are practicing on a daily basis continues to be recognized on a national level.”
GRMC was also recognized by Healthgrades, the leading online resource helping patients and their families make informed decisions to find the right hospital for the right care, as the proud recipient of the Healthgrades 2017 Patient Safety Excellence AwardTM. This designation recognizes superior performance in hospitals that have prevented the occurrence of serious, potentially avoidable complications for patients during hospital stays. The distinction places GRMC among the top 5 percent of all short-term acute care hospitals in the nation for patient safety.
“This national recognition from Healthgrades confirms our dedication in providing the best possible care to each life we are privileged to touch, as well as exemplifies the commitment of our staff when caring for patients”, said Robert Haynes, CEO of Guadalupe Regional Medical Center.
Being nationally recognized with a Patient Safety Excellence AwardTM means that GRMC has demonstrated excellent performance in safety provided for patients. During the 2013-2015 study period, Healthgrades found that patients treated in hospitals receiving the award, when compared to patients treated at non-recipient hospitals, were, on average:
- 40 percent less likely to experience an accidental puncture or laceration during a procedure
- 44 percent less likely to experience a collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest
- 54 percent less likely to experience catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired at the hospital
- 50 percent less likely to experience pressure sores or bedsores acquired in the hospital
Statistics are based on Healthgrades analysis of MedPAR data for years 2013 through 2015 and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients only.
GRMC was also recognized by Healthgrades as a 5-Star performer in Hip Fracture Treatments, Total Knee Replacements, Appendectomy, C-Section Deliveries, as well as Vaginal Deliveries; meaning our clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating a condition or performing a procedure.
