For Physicians

The Seguin medical community is unique in many ways. GRMC ( is the only city-county hospital in Texas. It is a not-for-profit, non-corporate, community hospital licensed for 125 beds. A $100 million expansion project was completed in 2010, providing a modern, spacious and elegant practice setting . As per Healthgrades ratings, GRMC has consistently ranked as one of the highest in the nation for quality orthopedic care, gynecological surgery, and management of respiratory failure based on volume and outcomes. In addition to acute care services, we also have an Inpatient Rehab Unit with special focus for orthopedic and neurological patients.

There are approximately 85 active medical staff members at GRMC who live and practice locally. A hallmark of our medical staff has been and continues to be strong unity and dedication to patient care. To maintain this culture, we are very selective in bringing in only board certified physicians who share our commitment for community, collaboration and high quality patient care… summed up in our position statement of “Advanced Medicine. Personal Touch.”    Several new recruitments over the past year have added to the scope and breadth of our medical community, including endocrinology, palliative care, two neurologists, pain management, OB/GYN, wound care/hyperbarics.

About GRMCLearn More

Guadalupe Regional Medical Center is located in Seguin, a budding Central Texas city with a patient catchment area of over 100,000 to our south and east. Seguin is located off Interstate 10, about 35 minutes away from San Antonio and 45 minutes away from Austin. Two nearby cities, New Braunfels and San Marcos, have been ranked as the #12 and #1 fastest growing cities in the United States. Seguin is the county seat for Guadalupe County, ranked by CNN Money Magazine as number 4 in the nation for “where the jobs are”. Some of the many reasons for this phenomenal growth is the Eagleford Oil Shale to our south, the recently completed State Highway 130 directly connecting Seguin to Austin, several significant industries including Caterpillar engine manufacturing, and many popular recreational and family oriented activities along the Guadalupe, Comal and San Marcos Rivers.

Current practice opportunities through GRMC include:

  • Primary Care – Family Practice or Internal Medicine Learn More

Seguin’s growing population is clearly in need of additional primary care providers. Our community currently has 10 family practitioners and 3 internists, a few of whom still admit patients in addition to their clinic, and the majority of whom are exclusively office based. All have very full practices and welcome additional practitioners to the area.

Antonio Flores, MD, (family practice) completed his fellowship in geriatrics at John Peter Smith and focuses his practice on adult and senior medicine. He currently cares for a busy practice load and covers nursing home patients. He has been admitting his own patients since he began practicing here, but has recently decided to refer patients to the well-established hospitalist program given the busy pace of his practice. He employs two extenders, and is looking for a partner who is equally hard working and committed to quality patient care. Competitive salary, bonus structure and benefits are offered.

David Rider, MD, and his brother James Rider, DO, along with Arlynn Hartfiel, MD, have a thriving and progressive FP clinic. Dr. Hartfiel plans to retire after 30+ years of practice and the intention is to find a doctor to fill his role in the practice. They employ one extender now. Competitive salary, bonus structure and benefits are offered.

Dr. Jennifer Hennessee, ENT, is an extremely well respected physician, surgeon and medical staff leader. She is looking for someone of her caliber to join her practice. Dr. Brooks Mullen, ENT, is currently sharing office space with Dr. Hennessee but plans to retire in not too distant future. There is an ever growing market in Seguin and outlying areas for ENT – this is an ideal time to establish a practice in ENT here and to work in partnership with an excellent mentor.

There are two full time urologists covering this community: Howard Solomon, MD and Tres Ryan, MD. Dr. Solomon plans to ramp down his full time private practice next year after more than 30 years of practice in Seguin. Dr. Ryan is employed by our hospital based group, GRMG. The two are very active in our medical community – Dr. Solomon is current Chief of Staff and Dr. Ryan is the Chief Medical Officer. The call, therefore, is 1:2 – but perhaps there would be an opportunity for Dr. Solomon to continue to take call and therefore set up a 1:3 call schedule.
As an employee of GRMG, competitive salary and benefits are offered. A private practice opportunity is also available, though we recognize it is rare for a new physician to consider that route.

GRMC purchased a Robot last year, currently only being used by GYN and general surgeons. Of course we have a dedicated cysto room. We are very proud of our anesthesia, radiology and hospitalist teams – all of whom would be very relevant to urology.

Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin, Texas, is recruiting for two separate pediatrician positions.   One is to fill an pivotal new role that incorporates inpatient hospitalist care for newborns and pediatric patients; the second is for to fill the position of a current outpatient clinic pediatrician who plans to retire this year.

Pediatric hospitalist practice opportunity:

By broad consensus of the affected medical staff members, it has been agreed that developing a Level 2 NICU at GRMC is imperative.   Architectural plans have been developed, and a neonatologist has already begun full time practice at GRMC  to provide nursery and pediatric hospitalist care. One of the hospital’s adult patient hospitalists is a Family Practioner who will also rotate to provide pediatric care coverage.    Hence, an additional  pediatrician is being sought to provide cross coverage for this program, providing a pivotal opportunity for developing a robust pediatric hospitalist program.

The inpatient position involves:

–    Sharing the responsibility of normal newborn care (approximate 70 deliveries per month) and inpatient pediatric care with the newly hired neonatologist.

–      Assist in staff training and education for pediatric care.

–      Over the past several years most community pediatric patients have been transferred to care in San Antonio due to local pediatrician preference.    The hospital’s goal is to re-invigorate the pediatrics program so that non-complicated pediatric patients who do not require pediatric subspecialists can be cared for in their own community.   In 2014, only 50 pediatric patients were admitted, while over 200 pediatric ER patients were transferred to San Antonio.   At least half of those transferred patients could have remained in Seguin with the appropriate and engaged pediatric coverage.

–     At most, it is not expected that  hospital coverage would entail more than 5 normal newborns and 3 low acuity inpatient pediatric admissions a day.    At the least, the demands may be as few as two patients in one day.

–   The hospital will provide competitive salary, malpractice insurance and health benefits.

Outpatient pediatric practice opportunity:

Assuming the outpatient clinical duties of a well-respected, retiring pediatrician in an established, two-provider multi-specialty primary care practice.  This currently consists of approximately 20 hours per week in clinic, seeing 12-18 patients in a half-day, but the increasing demands for pediatric care has led to decision to make this a full time employed position who would see as many as 24 patients per day.    The is flexibility to consider a part time or full time position, with commiserate compensation.

Overhead expenses covered as part of this agreement include:

– fully equipped, modern facilities, well-trained and experienced clinical and front office staff, all supplies, and experienced and thorough billing services.

– all advertising and promotional costs as deemed necessary to grow or sustain the pediatric side of the practice

– all EHR licensing fees and PHO dues for pediatric provider

– assistance with coverage for outpatient sick visits and after hours patient calls during vacations (up to two weeks at a time).

– highly flexible scheduling options as needed.

The employing physician, Linda Sullivan, DO, FP, will provide competitive salary, malpractice insurance and health benefits.
