[(Seguin, Texas) September 29, 2026] Elaine Bennett, CEO of Guadalupe Regional Medical Foundation, is proud to announce the establishment of the Margo Trost Nursing Scholarship Endowment Fund, created by Margo’s children, Annette Trost Eicher and Dennis Trost, to honor their mother’s lifelong commitment to nursing, education and service to the Seguin community.

The perpetual endowment will provide financial assistance to young people entering the nursing field, helping future generations pursue careers in health care while carrying forward the legacy of a woman who devoted much of her life to caring for others and encouraging others to join the nursing profession.

For Annette and Dennis, establishing the scholarship was a fitting way to honor their mother and the impact she had on countless people throughout her nearly century-long life.

Margaret “Margo” Chapman Trost was born and raised in Indiana and trained as a registered nurse at Purdue University in the late 1930s. She began her nursing career in California before joining the Navy, where she met and married Rudy Trost in Corpus Christi. In 1945, the couple moved to Seguin, where the Trost family had deep roots.

Margo began working at the Seguin Hospital on Weinert Street, where she became lifelong close friends with Sarah Annette Hazard and Dorothea Marie Siepmann, who had founded the hospital in 1946. In fact, Margo named her daughter after their middle names: Annette Marie Trost. Sarah and Dorothea became her daughter’s doting godmothers.

Her commitment to nursing education became another important part of her career. At the request of Seguin ISD Superintendent Mr. Barnes, Margo established a Health Occupations curriculum at Seguin High School. At age 52, she returned to what was then Southwest Texas State University to obtain the education certification needed to teach the program. Under her guidance, the program grew and flourished, giving Margo another opportunity to encourage young people to pursue careers in health care.

After a lifetime in hospital and school nursing and health professions education, Margo retired from health care but continued serving the community through extensive volunteer work. She was the first board chair of the newly formed Guadalupe Regional Medical Foundation board in 1999 and later became a beloved volunteer in the GRMC gift shop for many years. She also gave her time to numerous community organizations, including the Girl Scouts, Heritage Museum, Methodist Church, Friends of the Library, Conservation Society, Elks, and Seguin Chamber of Commerce.

Margo remained a generous contributor to the Seguin community until her final days. She passed away in December 2021, just four months shy of her 100th birthday.

The Margo Trost Nursing Scholarship Endowment will provide a lasting way to honor her dedication to nursing and education. Guadalupe Regional Medical Foundation and Guadalupe Regional Medical Center are grateful to Annette and Dennis Trost for their generosity and to all donors and supporters who help strengthen health care in the Guadalupe County community.
