[Seguin, Texas (February 9, 2026)] – The Guadalupe Regional Medical Foundation (GRMF) is proud to announce yet another endowment fund to help support facility growth at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center (GRMC). An endowment fund provides a perpetual gift of funding, as the principal is never spent but the interest payments are made available each year.

As with most endowments, this one comes with a story of a very special person, Susan Ranft Schmidt. Susan recently passed away at the end of 2025, after a long career working hand in hand with Karen McMillan at the Seguin-based real estate firm Karen McMillan Properties. Karen was officially Susan’s boss, but together they made a great collaborative team and were dear friends. Karen praises Susan for all her wonderful qualities: she was smart, industrious, committed, dependable and enthusiastic, made excellent decisions, and was totally trustworthy.

In recounting the many stories of their work and friendship, Karen realized that the same attributes she appreciated in Susan are the same qualities that she admires about the staff and physicians at GRMC. Talented, hard-working, committed, dependable, compassionate and caring, intuitive and totally trustworthy.

Today, Karen is one of nineteen impressive members leading the GRMF governing board, all of whom are deeply committed to preserving and strengthening our award-winning independent regional hospital through philanthropy and ambitious visions for growth.

The Susan Ranft Schmidt Endowment is the latest in many gifts that Karen McMillan has made to the hospital. She notes that she has been inspired by many others in her life in giving generously to organizations that serve others. She continues to work hard in her real estate firm, helping her to continue that legacy of life long giving to the community.

Karen knows from personal experience and the many people she knows here that GRMC provides top quality care and is truly a key gem for Seguin and our region. She is inspired to be part of the dynamic GRMF governing board, supporting the hospital’s growth, and finding a great deal of fulfillment and even fun in doing so.
