GRMC Recognized as 5-Star Facility from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)

Guadalupe Regional Medical Center (GRMC) has been nationally recognized as 5-Stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for their overall hospital quality star rating. The methodology used for 2021 included standardizing and measuring group scores in the following categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely & effective care. After estimating the group score for each hospital, CMS calculates a weighted average to combine the group scores into a single hospital summary score.

Out of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide, only 455 in the nation were rated 5-Star, and in Texas only 28 hospitals were recognized as a 5-Star quality facility, Guadalupe Regional Medical Center being one of them.

“Five stars is the highest CMS rating available,” said Robert Haynes, CEO of Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. “Despite the challenges that COVID-19 brought to hospitals across the nation, our team went above and beyond to keep patients safe and create exceptional outcomes. This five-star ranking recognizes the work every single member of our organization does every day to provide the best possible care to each life we are privileged to touch.”

Only 13.5% of the 4,586 hospitals rated by CMS nationwide earned a five-star rating in the April 2021 rankings. GRMC is honored to be among the nation’s elite hospitals with five stars for overall quality. The efforts of the medical staff, nurses and caregivers in providing safe, efficient and effective quality care on a consistent basis.

CMS is committed to ensuring patients and family members have quality information when considering where to receive care. These star ratings provide an accurate reflection of the medical services, safety, and caliber of care you will find nationwide.
