Guadalupe Regional Medical Center COVID-19 Update: July 20, 2020

As of July 20, 2020, Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting 1,448 COVID-19 cases in Guadalupe County (with 150 of these cases classified as probable; 551 DSHS pending cases; and 747 confirmed cases). The total number includes 906 reported to Guadalupe County with 495 recovered and 411 active cases.

Numbers of COVID-19 Patients at GRMC: Currently GRMC has 34 hospitalized COVID-19 patients (including 3 patients receiving skilled care that are COVID-19 positive plus 1 patient transferred from another facility). This number changes frequently and not all patients at GRMC are Guadalupe County residents.

GRMC’s 7 day moving average number of new COVID-19 hospital admissions per day is now 4; this is a decrease from the prior average of 5 reported on July 17th; and 6-7 reported on July 10th. The 7 day moving average of COVID-19 hospitalized patients is 33 (which is down from the prior weeks’ average of 38). This information represents average numbers from our facility alone.

GRMC Capacity: During this disaster GRMC has increased its ICU capacity from 9 to 26 beds by repurposing non-traditional care areas for the care of patients with COVID-19 pursuant to federal waivers allowing for flexibility. GRMC was stretched and challenged to continue to care for all our patients during the recent increase of COVID-19 activity in our community but we met that challenge with the help of staffing resources coordinated with South Texas Regional Advisory Council.

Guadalupe Regional Medical Center remains ready to take care of your medical needs. Now that we are seeing a reduction in our average number of COVID-19 daily admissions we will continue to track and report organizational data to appropriate agencies, monitor COVID-19 activity in surrounding counties, and be ready to accept patients (if able) from areas of Texas where need has exceeded capacity.
