Dr. Borgfeld was raised in what he playfully calls the “big city” of Weesatche, TX, in Goliad County. He attended K-12 at Goliad I.S.D. and graduated in 2006. He is married to his high school sweetheart Debra, and the couple built a home in Stockdale, TX where they live with their four rescue dogs. They consider themselves a “family of little rescues” as Dr. Borgfeld himself was adopted and Debra was taken in by her grandparents at an early age. They are both active members of the church where they were married in 2009, St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Weesatche, TX, and Dr. Borgfeld currently sits on church council. They lovingly say they are passionate about “their puppies and their faith”, and it was that faith that went into the name Lighthouse Family Health. They seek to provide patients with comprehensive care: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Academically, Dr. Borgfeld began his undergraduate years at Victoria College where he began taking his basics. He transferred to The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) in Edinburg, TX to complete his prerequisites for medical school. While at Pan Am, he conducted laboratory research in both organic and inorganic chemistry, and was published for his research using iron oxide nanomaterials in the removal of arsenic from water supplies. Dr. Borgfeld graduated with his Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from UTPA attaining the highest academic honor, summa cum laude. He went on to pursue medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, TX. He completed the Translational Research Track while at UTMB and worked in pharmacological research as well as medical device development. He is featured on a patent for a medical device used in vascular access during dialysis. At graduation from UTMB, Dr. Borgfeld was selected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society based upon his demonstration of excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service. He chose to pursue his residency in Family Medicine at UT Health Northeast in Tyler, TX. While in residency Dr. Borgfeld trained in all three phases of care: outpatient (clinic), inpatient (hospital/ICU), and ER. He became Board Certified in Family Medicine in 2019, and was honored with an award in Academic Excellence at his residency graduation.

Dr. Borgfeld prides himself in treating his patients like they were one of his own family, and this is the foundation for the care delivered at Lighthouse Family Health.

And for a few funny stories, be sure to ask him about his 1965 Buick Special!
