Gestational Diabetes Education at GRMC

Guadalupe Regional Medical Center’s gestational diabetes class focuses on complications for the mother, such as preeclampsia and eclampsia, as well as the baby. Examples of focuses include hypoglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, pre-term and respiratory distress, as well as jaundice.

Class topics include:

  • What is gestational diabetes and the risk factors for gestational diabetes
  • Treatment of gestational diabetes: medications healthy eating, physical activity, monitoring your blood sugar levels
  • How to reduce the risk of complication to mother and baby

Complications due to gestational diabetes can include:

For mother: diabetes in the future, preeclampsia and eclampsia
For the baby: hypoglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, pre-term and respiratory distress, overweight, Type 2 diabetes, and jaundice
